Michael Friedl

Michael Friedl participated in the Manfred Lachs Moot Court 2017 in Helsinki (Finland). Since then, he has served as coach of the Viennese teams. He worked at the University of Vienna as a teaching assistant, adjunct faculty and research assistant and lecturer. Michael gained international experience at the Austrian embassy commercial office in Cairo (Egypt) and the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs. He is currently pursuing his PhD at the University of Vienna and a LL.M degree in National Security and U.S. Foreign Relations Law at The George Washington University Law School as a Fulbright and Buergenthal scholar. In his words:

“Participation in the Space Law Moot Court has jumpstarted my career in international law. It allowed me to pursue my interest in public international law while simultaneously developing research, writing and advocacy skills. My favorite term for space lawyer? ‘Astronaut-attorney’.”

Maximilian Gartner

Maximilian represented the University of Vienna at the European Rounds in Helsinki, 2017. He has subsequently worked as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Vienna's Department of International Law, interned at the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, and worked as an associate at a major Austrian law firm. Currently, Maximilian is conducting research as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions ITN fellow at the University of Bologna. In his words:

"The Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court has been an extraordinary chance to connect with colleagues from around Europe and to practice my advocacy and research skills. I believe, participation in an international Moot Court is one of the best door openers for ambitious law students and can wholly recommend it to everyone interested.  It might also be the closest you will ever get to be an astronaut!"

Stephanie Stipsits

Stephanie represented the University of Vienna at the European Rounds in Glasgow, 2016. She has subsequently coached the 2017 MC Team of the University of Vienna as adjunct lecturer, worked as governmental trainee at the Federal Government of Burgenland as well as at the Austrian Ministry of Defense and interned at the Austrian Chamber of Commerce in Tokyo. Stephanie received a full scholarship of the Japanese government (MEXT) and pursued a LL.M. program at the Kobe University (Japan). At the moment, she is also doing her PhD in international law at the University of Vienna, which she also supports as a project research assistant in the field of space law. In her words:

“Participating at the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court was one of the best decisions I ever made. It contributed immensely to my skill set as lawyer, opened new doors and enabled amazing opportunities. Also, talking about Space Law is a good ice breaker!.”
